4/22 MLB DATA DRIVEN ARTICLE

GOING TO TRY SOMETHING NEW TODAY INSTEAD OF GOING GAME BY GAME. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK IN THE COMMENTS.

PITCHER:

CHRIS SALE- Chis Sale has always been one of the most expensive pitchers on the slate over the many years that he has pitched. On a ten game slate where we do not have many top end arms, he is the 6th highest priced pitcher against the Tigers. DET is dead last in the league in SLG vs LHP at only .286 and second to last in BA against LHP at only .200. Best matchup Sale has had this year. FIRE HIM UP!

JOE MUSGROVE- Musgrove has been on fire so far this season. .81 ERA to go with a .76 WHIP and 21 strikeouts in 22 innings. He is a heavy groundball guy which bodes well against this ARI lineup and in this ballpark. Not a lot of appealing pitchers on this slate, but Musgrove offers upside and a solid floor in this spot.

CHRIS BASSIT- He is just very cheap. $6800 for a guy pitching in the Coliseum against a Rangers lineup who might be missing Asdrubal Cabrera again is appealing. The Rangers strikeout a ton and their offense is much better at home as you would expect. The only hitter in the projected lineup with a strikeout percentage under 19% is Andrus who is at 17%. Gallo has a 33% k-rate, Wisdom has a 38% k-rate, Deshields, Choo, Santana, are all over 21%. Bassit looks really good today.

FIRST BASE:

RYAN ZIMMERMAN- Zimmerman is pretty cheap for playing in Coors against a LHP. This season Zimmerman is hitting .385 with a .462 SLG against LHP and Zimmerman is a career .310 hitter against LHP. Anderson has gotten destroyed this season and has not been good at home during his career. Coming off a 2 homerun game, Zimmerman is in a great spot to continue his hot hitting tonight.

JOSE ABREU- Abreu has been cold lately, but it is a great spot for him to get back on track today. Hess is not much of a strikout pitcher and you worry about Abreu striking out, so there is a good chance Abreu will make contact and in this ballpark will be able to do some damage.

SECOND BASE-

JONATHON VILLAR- Villar got off to a fast start, but has cooled down a bit. He still offers a lot of upside because he leads off, has speed, and power. For his career, he has more power against LHP. Banuelos does not have a large sample size, but RHH are hitting .283 with a .434 SLG against him.

Jose Altuve- Altuve has been red hot over the past few weeks and the entire Astros offense has been swinging a hot bat. Odorizzi is a fly ball pitcher with a fly ball rate of 52% this season and like most fly ball pitchers, he has a tendency of giving up homeruns. Odorizzi also throws his fastball over 47% to RHH and Altuve has the highest wOBA against a fastball on the team.

SHORTSTOP-

TIM ANDERSON- Anderson is in the midst of a breakout season. He has a .286 ISO to go along with a .408 BA and a .694 SLG against RHP this season. Oh yeah, and he already has NINE stolen bases. SB upside is massive against Hess and he gets a great ballpark boost as well.

GLEYBER TORRES- Torres is a reverse splits hitter. This season he is hitting .269 against RHP to go with a .507 SLG and a .239 ISO. Against LHP, he is hitting only .167 with a .167 SLG and a -20 WRC+. Harvey leads the league in ERA among qualified starting pitchers and Torres is very cheap on draftkings.

THIRD BASE

YOAN MONCADA- Just like Anderson, Moncada is in the midst of a breakout season. He has always been much better against RHP and this season is no different. All 6 of his homeruns have come against righties and he has a .356 ISO against righties this year. Hess throws his fastball 60% to lefties and Moncada has crushed fastballs his entire career.

ANTHONY RENDON- Rendon is a lefty masher. He has a .615 ISO with a 1.000 SLG this season against lefties and is a career .304 hitter against southpaws (20 points higher than against RHP). Anderson gives up a lot of power to righties and Rendon has plenty of power. He is expensive, but if you play a cheap pitcher like Bassit is easy to fit in.

OUTFIELD-

DAVID DAHL- Great numbers against RHP. .368 BA and a .632 SLG. Hitting in Coors and facing a pitcher that struggles against lefties is also very appealing.

CHARLIE BLACKMON- Blackmon has always hit a lot better at home, but the splits this season so far have been off the charts. He is hitting over .460 at home and under .180 on the road. Hellickson has held RHH to a .107 BA this year but lefties are hitting .364 with a .591 SLG.

TREY MANCINI- This is now Trey Mancini’s team. He crushes lefties. He has a .379 BA to go with a .379 ISO and a .759 SLG against lefties this year. So much power and so much upside in this matchup.

CLINT FRAZIER- Frazier has been on fire this season especially against RHP. He is hitting .365 with a .327 ISO and a .692 SLG vs RHP this year. Harvey sucks and Frazier has been better on the road too.

EDDIE ROSARIO- Sneaky play alert. Peacock is much worse against LHH. Lefties have a .342 ISO compared to a .101 ISO against righties. He also strikes lefties out 10% less than righties. Finally he throws his fastball almost 50% to LHH and Rosario is a really good fastball hitter. Rosario has been on fire and is a much better spot than it appears if you dig into the numbers.
