4/23 MLB ARTICLE

PITCHER:

LUKE WEAVER- Weaver has a lot of talent and maybe he can finally put it all together this year. He is coming off a great start against the Braves where he struck out nine over five innings. It’s impressive because the Braves have one of the lowest team strikeout rates in the league. If he can strikeout the Braves, he should be able to strikeout these Pirates. The Pirates are dealing with many injuries to key pieces like Marte and Dickerson. Their lineup is not scary at all.

ZACK WHEELER- Wheeler get to face the Phillies at a good time with their offense struggling and dealing with injuries. He gets a great ballpark to pitch in and this Phillies lineup can strikeout a lot. Everyone in the projected lineup has a strikeout rate over 19% except for Franco.

HOMER BAILEY- Bailey has been great this season. I’m not expecting that to last very long, but if you need a cheap SP2, Bailey has looked the best out of that bunch. He gets a ballpark boost and the Rays are missing their best hitter, Austin Meadows. Bailey has been racking up strikeouts this season and there are strikeouts to be had in this Rays lineup.

FIRST BASE:

Justin Smoak- Has been on fire lately. He gets a solid matchup against Samardzija who has struggled against lefties in his career. Smoak is a switch hitter, but he has much more power against RHP than LHP. This season, he is hitting .326 to go with a .630 SLG vs RHP. Smoak has been seeing the ball really well lately and I think it will continue tonight.

JOSE ABREU- Abreu is very streaky. He started off the season hot, but then went into a slump. Yesterday’s performance signals that he is due for a hot streak. The matchup is great against Cashner who struck out only 11.9% of RHH last season and Abreu is 6 for 9 aganinst Cashner in his career.

SECOND BASE:

ERIC SOGARD- Sogard is only 3.6k on draftkings and is projected to lead off against Samardzija. He’s been really good so far for the Jays this season, hitting .409 in his first 22 AB. Samardija has given up .290 BA and a .419 SLG to lefties this season compared to a .174 BA and .261 SLG vs RHH. Sogard has the platoon advantage and should get plenty of at bats leading off.

GLEYBER TORRES- Torres is a reverse splits hitter. This season he is hitting .269 against RHP to go with a .507 SLG and a .239 ISO. Against LHP, he is hitting only .167 with a .167 SLG. Stratton has given up a .300 BA to RHH along with a .475 SLG this season. Torres is once again cheap on DK.

SHORTSTOP

JORGE POLANCO- Polanco is having an incredible season for a Twins team whose offense looks lethal. Polanco is hitting .392 with four homeruns already on the year. He hits right at the top of the lineup and gets a great matchup against Wade Miley who has given up a career .275 BA against RHH. The SS position is not particularly strong on DK today, but Polanco looks solid.

TREVOR STORY- Picking on Corbin is not something I do often, but he has struggled in Coors for his career. He has a 6.55 ERA in 10 starts in Coors and Story smashes LHP. STORY is hitting .400 against LHP this season and has a .300 BA in 20 ABs against Corbin in his career.

THIRD BASE-

YOAN MONCADA- Moncada is in the midst of a breakout season. He has always been much better against RHP and this season is no different. All 6 of his homeruns have come against righties and he has a .356 ISO against righties this year. Cashner has gotten lit up against RHH this year to a tune of a .305 BA and .559 SLG.

NOLAN ARENADO- Like Story, Arenado crushes lefties and has crushed Corbin in his career. Arenado has a .333 BA with 3 homeuns in 33 ABs against Corbin. Arenado has a .333 BA, .792 SLG, and a .458 ISO against lefties this year.

OUTFIELD

JUAN SOTO- Soto gets a dream matchup against Jeff Hoffman in Coors. He is much, much better against RHP. He has .227 ISO vs RHP this season. Hoffman has gotten destroyed vs LHH this season in a small sample size. Lefties are hitting .526 with a .684 SLG against Hoffman.

NELSON CRUZ- Cruz has been one of the premier lefty smashers in his career. He has a career .290 BA vs lefties(much higher than vs RHP) and a career .258 ISO vs lefties. It’s good hitting weather in Houston tonight.

STEPHEN PISCOTTY- Piscotty is only 3.6K on DK. Righties are hitting .295 against Lynn this season. Piscotty has power against both righties and lefties and seems like a solid cheap option today.
