4/25 MLB ARTICLE
Gerrit Cole- Cole has a high ERA, but the advanced numbers suggest he is having a great season. He has 44 strikeouts in just 29 innings and a 2.94 xFIP. The Indians have the lowest total on the board at just 3.4 runs and strikeout at a league average rate.
Aaron Nola- A 6.84 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP look really bad, but we all know the talent is there. Coming off a career season at just 24 years old, a pitcher does not regress. He is off to a slow start, but gets a prime matchup against a terrible Marlins team. Tons of strikeouts and Nola has been very good at home in his career.
Caleb Smith- Smith shut the Phillies offense down just two weeks ago where he just gave up 1 hit in 6 innings. The Phillies offense has been struggling lately due to injuries and poor play. At $7300 he is appealing due to the lack of options and the Phillies are much more powerful against RHP with Harper and Hoskins.
Mitch Moreland- Has crushed RHP so far this season. All 7 of his homeruns have come against RHP and he has a .672 SLG against righties this season. Jordan Zimmerman has struggled against LHH this season. Lefties are hitting .273 with a .568 SLG compared to a .224 BA and .362 SLG vs RHH this year.
Edwin Encarnacion- Mariners get a great matchup against a lefty making his debut. Taylor Hearn is nothing special and the Mariners have one of the most powerful offenses in MLB. Encarnacion has a lot of power vs LHP. He already has 2 homeruns in 12 AB this season and a .333 BA overall.
GLEYBER TORRES- Second base is a pretty ugly position today. Torres offers power at a cheap price. Cahill has already given up 8 homeruns in just 25 innings of work this season. Cahill has been worse against LHH than RHH, but Torres is a reverse splits hitter which would neutralize that.
Dee Gordon- Gordon is off to a fast start. I do not love the lefty on lefty matchup, but looking at the numbers, Gordon has been solid vs LHP. He is a career .280 hitter vs lefties vs .292 vs righties and I do not expect Hearn to last long in this game. Gordon offers lots of stolen base upside and has already belted 2 home runs this season.
Xander Bogaerts- The Red Sox have the highest implied total on the board today by far. Bogaerts is just a solid hitter and option as part of a Sox stack or as a one off. The Red Sox score a lot more runs at home and Zimmerman struggles with both hard contact and homeruns.
Tim Beckham- Beckham has cooled down a bit, but is still hitting .295 with 5 homeruns on the season. I love a SEA stack today and Beckham has tremendous numbers vs LHP. He has only had 14 ABs vs a lefty this year, but he is 8 for 14 with two homeruns. For his career, his batting average is 12 points higher vs lefties and his ISO is nearly 30 points higher.
Ryon Healy- Healy will be very low owned today since he bats near the bottom of the batting order, but he makes for a fine play since he has lots of power and thus upside. He is very affordable and has been very solid vs LHP during his career. He makes for a contrarian option as part of a SEA stack.
DJ Lemahieu- DJ is only $3.3k on draftkings. Fantasylabs has him projected to lead off which would make him an incredible source of value. Most people below 3.5k have not even played this season and Lemahieu is a solid hitter. Way too cheap.
Mookie Betts- Very underpriced on DK. He has always been one of the most expensive outfielders, but that has not been the case so far. He was amazing at home last season and gets a great matchup against Zimmerman.
Domingo Santana- Over a .200 ISO in his career vs LHP. He’s batting .306 with 5 homeruns and 27 RBIs this year. The 27 RBI leads the AL and there is a great chance for him to add to that today.
Hunter Pence- Career .203 ISO vs LHP. Very cheap at only $3.4K against Gonzales who does struggle at times against RHP. Projected to bat third in the batting order.
Nomar Mazara- The Rangers offense is just really cheap. Mazara is only $3.3k today. It is a lefty on lefty matchup, but him and Pence make for great cheap options if you want to pay up at pitcher. LHH are hitting .263 against Gonzales in his career and Mazara does have some pop against LHP.
